Driven by Science: Our philosophy is supported by the latest evidence based approach to the problem of motor control deficits. Simply speaking, we apply the science to retrain movement patterns for optimal physical wellness. The inclusion of Pilates to any exercise regimen can have far reaching results in sports performance conditioning, rehabilitation and recovery. General health and fitness will also be greatly increased. Pilates develops a functional balance of bio-motor abilities - strength, power, endurance, flexibility, co-ordination, balance, agility and speed Ć¢ā¬ā to create a body that moves with grace and ease. We set standards high for our instructors, so that clients and patients receive the best that Pilates can deliver for a sound and strong mind & body. It is our long-term goal to make Pilates accessible to all. For this reason we design the training process around the client's specific needs and goals. We strive to make a difference in elite sport performance, physical therapy and the fitness industry as a whole. We invite you to train with us and experience the results.
Courses for professionals: Our courses are designed with the career professional in mind. Our skill-based approach to Pilates education is modular and comprehensive to meet the requirements of working professionals. The early foundation skills are the platform for functionally integrated movements and exercises, so that the student not only develops thorough knowledge of the hundreds of exercises available, but is also capable of applying them correctly.
Course Units:
Orientation and Matwork - Thoughtful, deliberate movements designed to increase body awareness. Focused on finding the deeper connection within the body, stabilize the core, and mobilize the extremities. Develop a cognitive understanding of basic movements. Become proficient in verbal, visual and tactile cueing. Along with the introduction of the use of imagery, trainers will continually evaluate and guide clients safely through the program. Mat based exercises are taught with the six Pilates principles incorporated into the learning process; this provides a clear understanding of the underlying intention of each mat exercise.
Advanced Matwork - Build on the foundation of stability and accept the challenge of increased exercise intensity. Begin moving towards more functional challenges; learn specific teaching methods, advanced evaluation techniques and more complex exercise progressions. Performance related movement requires the highest level of application and skill. Refinement of instructional methods for this demanding level is continued. Exercises aim to develop overall balance and co-ordination, multi-segmental stability and full body co-ordination incorporate into high performance and peak functional programming.
Reformer - The Reformer course prepares you to teach a broad range of exercises performed on the Reformer, the primary piece of resistance equipment used in Pilates. The Reformer course equips the instructor with inspiring ways to challenge and motivate clients on an unstable platform. Also included are thorough safety, set-up and care sections, plus use of the Reformer Accessories such as the mat converter, jump board, long and short box.
Trapeze Table, Stability Chair and Barrels - The Trapeze Table (or Cadillac) course offers a unique progression in client programming with the use of springs and bars designed to support or challenge. Independent spring techniques allow for multi-planar stabilization exercise. The Trapeze Table techniques can be beneficial during subtle rehabilitation as well as athletic performance conditioning. Stability Chair course are the ultimate in functional movement series. Moving to a vertical orientation, gravity plays an important role to produce a progression that demands functional integrated movement. Inclusion of chair work for client programming is ideal for strength style training and for true functional challenges in rehabilitation. Designed to enhance spine flexibility and improve posture, the Barrels course provides unconventional movement challenges in a safe environment. This unit explores the use of four types of barrels: Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Arc Barrel and Small Barrel.
Entrance Requirements: Students are required to have a recognised certificate, diploma or degree in basic health and/or fitness studies. If you do not have, please ask us for information on how to register for a National Fitness Certificate that will qualify you to register with us. THE PILATES HOUSE
ANDRI MARAIS
Andri has been involved in the world of dance and fitness training from an early age. After qualifying at the age of 21 as a master teacher of dance Andri went on to compile her own Aerobics Instructors Course recognized by the International Dance Teachers Association and the South African Aerobics Association. After running a successful aerobics/dance studio for over 16 years a knee injury led her to participate in a Pilates instructors course and after becoming convinced of the powerful potential of Pilates she registered with Natasha Madel, a South African internationally qualified trainer in the New York Pilates method, created by Joseph Pilates himself. After an intensive and grueling, 600-hour course Andri became a fully qualified Pilates instructor herself and went on to expand her knowledge to include Swiss Ball workouts, the rehabilitation of injuries and rectifying postural imbalances. When it became apparent that the demand for Pilates was growing, Andri decided to open a studio dedicated purely to Pilates. The Pilates House was opened in 2001 and in 2007 Paul Lever joined the business. Andri recently achieved her international certification as an Advanced Pilates Instructor and is listed on the Classical Pilates website in the USA as a 3rd Generation Pilates Instructor www.classicalpilates.net
PAUL LEVER
On leaving school Paul enlisted in the Royal Marine Commandos in the United Kingdom and served as a Marine until 1983. Throughout his military career he was required to attain an extremely high level of fitness and personal health and so developed a keen interest in the health and fitness industry. After suffering with major lower back problems from using heavy weights at gym his physiotherapist recommended he try Pilates. After attending classes at Pilates House for 2 years and with a 90% improvement in his back problem, he decided to train as an Instructor and in 2007, joined Andri to become part owner of Pilates House. He has recently achieved his international certification as an Advanced Pilates Instructor and is listed on the Classical Pilates website in the USA as a 3rd Generation Pilates Instructor - www.classicalpilates.net.

I have had so many experiences from clients and it is through these experiences I have learnt all that I know today. It is through teaching that I have gained my knowledge of the movement and actions of the body and through thorough research in many areas.
